Day 2 Update

Hi Everyone

The students loved hearing your comments tonight before their swim. They brought smiles to their faces 😃. Thank you!

We’ve had another amazing day in our country’s capital! Starting at the Royal Mint the students were so interested in hearing about the history of our money and fascinated by seeing coins being made. They were absolutely amazed at the robots – Titan and Penny who worked the factory floor doing amazing things! Penny is programmed to work without a human operator and Titan showed us some pretty cool tricks!

After the Mint we went to Parliament House where we were met by Senator Eric Abetz and had morning tea. We then toured the amazing buildings and sat in the Senate and House of Representatives. Students then participated in their own House of Representatives sitting. They argued a bill about compulsory school sport. There are some budding politicians among the year 6 students!!

We had lunch along the Avenue of Flags and admired Lake Burley Griffin. We Skyped back to Prep and Year 5 at school which was lovely.

Our next stop was the Canberra planning centre where students learnt about how Canberra became the city it is today. They also had a chance to design a building they’d add to Canberra and explain why. We had some very creative designs!

We then went to the Electoral Commission Centre where students developed their knowledge about our Democratic voting system. It was very informative. Students then participated in a mock election with students taking on all sorts of roles. It was a great experience for them.

A quick trip back for a yummy dinner at our accommodation and then it was off for a swim at the AIS which was a highlight for many! The students are currently heading off to bed ready for another full day of fun and learning tomorrow! Enjoy the photos and more to come tomorrow!
